Killer Mike McKone Commission

Awhile back, I commissioned Mike McKone for an original Deathstroke vs. Ravager piece. Here's the result. Needless to say, I was blown away! The detail is amazing, the artwork is tight and the inks are impressive! This image is too good not to share. It's cover-worthy! Give it a click and see the incredible amount of detail.

Is it any wonder why Mike McKone has become one of my favorite artists? Man, do I miss him on Titans! [When is that Marvel contract up??]

Mike McKone Sketches

Along with my recent Mike McKone commission, I was also able to score some bonus Titans sketches from Mike! These sketches were done in preparation for the TITANS TOMORROW arc. I love seeing this stuff. McKone's CM3 rocks! Thansk to Art and Mike for these!

Evil From The East

Geoff Johns offers details on Deathstroke’s Titans East, who aim to put the hurt on the Teen Titans
By Matt Powell
Posted December 19, 2006 6:45 PM

The plot unfolds as the New York-based group of teen terrors comes aboard with a myriad of agendas. “They each have their own motivations,” says Johns. “Some are jaded, some are sadistic, sociopathic, some are getting paid, and some of it’s personal. The new character [Alter Boy] is on what he thinks is a god’s quest to exterminate Kid Devil from the face of the earth.”

If you’re evil, you can call yourself a Titan to get under a hero’s skin, but to really make it sting, take their house too! “They co-opted the old island that the old [Titans] tower was on,” says Johns.

As for the team’s leader, the word “death” is in his name, so don’t expect ’Stroke to take it easy on these kids. “Everybody’s expendable except for his son and daughter,” affirms Johns. “He doesn’t care about anyone else.”

Glen Murakami Talks 5 Seasons of Titans

How did TEEN TITANS develop as a series? What about those Batman/Justice League crossover discussions? Why didn't Starfire get a season arc? Which villain was hard to figure out? Titans Rejects Interviewed

DC's fictitious 52 Daily Planet site offered coverage on the Titans tryouts...

American Titan?
by Josef Schuman, Daily Planet Contributing Reporter
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 14

In numbers rivaling that of reality television audition shows, hundreds of young costumed heroes gathered earlier today at the famed Titans Tower located on a small island off the coast of San Francisco in the hopes of joining the ranks of the legendary Teen Titans superhero team. Although the media was not granted access to the meeting, this reporter set up shop at a local pier, capturing bits and pieces of the recruitment drive through the voices of the people who had the most to say about it: the rejects.

Amanda Conner Rocks With Terra

The awesome Amanda Conner talks about SUPERGIRL #12, Terra and more with Newsarama.

Amanda reveals: "I had already started Terra, and I didn’t want to step on any editorial toes, but I think Eddie Berganza, Tom Palmer and Dan Didio had discussed it among themselves and asked if they could add an issue of Supergirl to my schedule while I was working on Terra, in essence, stop Terra, do the Supergirl issue, and then start Terra again. As long it was all harmonious between the editors, I was game, so it worked out.

And it’s Supergirl. Who doesn’t want to draw Supergirl?"

Arsenal to Red Arrow

DC has revealed some new JLA action figures to hit stores. Justice League of America Series 1 features Red Arrow. Yep, not Arsenal. Red Arrow. Looks like Roy is in for a name change....

It's sorta a shame. Arsenal was such a cool name. And Roy as an awesome marksman and weapons expert... well, that was a great evolution for him as a character. As Red Arrow... he's just another "arrow guy." DC sure loves their redundant families of characters with identical powers...

Anyway, each figure features multiple points of articulation and a base. Release Date : Saturday 14 July, 2007.

TEEN TITANS third season on April 10th!

Even with help from the new Titans East, formed by heroes Speedy, Aqualad, Bumblebee and high-speed flying twin Mas Y Menos, this battle may be too much to comprehend! But time's running out. Other criminals from the Titans' rogue gallery like Mad Mod, Red X and Johnny Rancid reappear with their own destructive plans. Cool new heroes. Killer villians. Butt kickin' action. Wizard Reveals JUDAS CONTRACT DVD details

published in WIZARD 2007 MOVIE SPECTACULAR (Dec 2006)

TEEN TITANS: THE JUDAS CONTRACT DVD (2008)

RELEASE DATE
2008 from Warner Brothers Animation and Warner Home Video

BEHIND THE SCENES
Written by Marv Wolfman and Tom DeSanto; executive produced by Sander Schwartz and Gregory Noveck

THE DISH
For everyone who was a fan of the hit Cartoon Network series, this is not for you. For everyone who liked the show but wondered where characters like Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, and others were in the original cartoon, this is more up your alley.

Based on the story written by Marv Wolfman and George perez, Teen Titans villain Destroke the Terminator sends a spychopathic metahuman named Terra to infiltrate the team to gain access to their secret identities so he can capture them.

"I love the original story," explains Wolfman. "This is one of several Titans stories we did early on that deserves to be a movie."

Wolfman admitted to having a fondness for the original Dethstroke stories, the Terror of Trigon and the Titans story set on Starfire's home world.

Co-writing and Wolfman will be Tom DeSanto, producer on the "X-Men" and upcoming "Transformers" films. Perez will contirbute all-new character designs, and the team will feature the classic lineup of Wonder Girl, Changeling, Cyborg, Raven and Dick Grayson, who will make the transition from Robin to Nightwing.

Cyborg & Flash in Smallville

Smallville is getting their own Justice League... sort of. Look for Vic Stone and Bart Allen - among others - to return and join forces! The special episode, "Justice", is slated to air January 18, 2007. From the fantastic kryptonsite.com...

Written & Directed By: Steve DeKnight
Guest Stars: Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow), Alan Ritchson (Arthur "AC" Curry/Aquaman), Kyle Gallner (Bart Allen/The Flash), Lee Thompson Young (Victor Stone/Cyborg)

UPDATED 11/24/06: The "Justice League" characters will be wearing outfits that are very reminiscent of their comic book counterparts. They will also be using code names - Oliver, of course, is the Green Arrow; A.C. is Aquaman; Victor Stone is Cyborg; but it has been hinted (in places such as writer Steve DeKnight's blog) that Bart Allen will be using a different code name "because of a DC note." Don't be surprised if Bart's new code name is a familiar one to fans of the character - something that refers to his Impulsive nature. No word yet on a name for Clark, but considering the Siegel family lawsuits, it's probably not going to be Superboy.
- Lana (Kristin Kreuk) does not appear in this episode.

UPDATED 10/30/06: Chloe meets with a Dr. Caselli to ask him what he knows about Level 33.1. We're guessing this means that 33.1 plays a role in this episode's general story.
- The Martian Manhunter will not be showing up. (See Rumorville)
- Contrary to rumors, Batman/Bruce Wayne will not be appearing in this episode.

- From the column of TV Guide's Mike Ausiello, some quotes from Alfred Gough: "Episode 11, which is our second episode back in January, is going to be called 'Justice,' and it'll basically be our first look at the Justice League. We're gonna have Green Arrow, Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman, played by Alan Ritchson, who is coming back. That's gonna be our first Justice League episode." And where exactly is Wonder Woman? "Ask Joel Silver," Gough grumbles. "He's the producer; he controls the movie rights. We'd do a whole Wonder Woman series if we had Wonder Woman, but Joss Whedon is writing the movie, so we can't have her."

Look for more images at the Comic Continuum, where they report: "The trailer including several tidbits, including Lana expressing second thoughts about her relationships with Lex and Clark and Lois apparently finding out that Oliver Queen is Green Arrow."

Geoff's Sneak Peek to TEEN TITANS #45

Geoff Johns has revealed on his message boards: "Titans East is just two issues away. The team has gone through a massive amounts of changes over the last year. They lost several members, they've tried to find new ones, it hasn't worked...but now new members are coming on to the team. They found one they thought was lost and Ravager's found a brother. Kid Devil's secret will begin to tear at his heart. Robin and Wonder Girl find new hope. This team might actually become a family again...

...but this new family is about to be challenged.

Cyborg Rumor: Slated for [Mini?] Series

Rich Johnston's LYING IN THE GUTTERS rumor column had this to say: "The new weekly series to follow DC's "52" is called "Countdown." Written by Paul Dini, it will start the week after "52" ends, and will continue the concept of portraying the DC Universe out in real time. Other new titles to look forward to include "Black Canary" and "Cyborg."

Now, keep in mind this is a RUMOR column, so the info has not been officially announced by DC! I'm guessing the Cyborg series is a mini-series, but we shall see!

Marv Wolfman on NIGHTWING

Newsarama reports: "Now, two issues into his run, Wolfman is able to speak a little more freely about his views on the character, what he came on to do, and what he plans to do, given that his initial four-issue arc has been extended to a run of indefinite length. We caught up with the writer to talk about ‘Wing, his life and his times.

Newsarama: The last time we spoke about Nightwing, you'd just gotten the job, so we didn't go into too many specifics. Now, with two issues out, and a handful more in planning, plotted, and written stages, let's dig into it a little. First - was there any difficultly in finding Nightwing's voice again after a few years of not writing him?

Marv Wolfman: There honestly wasn't a problem finding his voice, but there was in finding mine. I was asked by Dan Didio and Peter Tomasi to work with them to help get Nightwing back on track so I put together a story that would highlight some aspect of his character each issue. By the fourth issue, the character would essentially be back-to-basics for whoever was going to take over after my story was done. That meant his character would be redefined and his purpose and position in the DCU made clear, etc. In short, we wanted the readers to know who Dick Grayson was again and why so many people like him so much."

Jamal Igle on Nightwing

Newsarama reports: "[DC] has confirmed that Jamal Igle, most recently the regular artist on Firestorm will join the series as regular artist with issue #129. "

Jamal Igle is the newest Nightwing artist! Cool! [Above: a Nightwing con sketch by Jamal.]

Jamal says: "Oh yeah. I was a fan, as a lot of us were back in the day of The New Teen Titans, so that two panel shot of Nightwing and Jericho being introduced for the first time is burned into my brain.

Nightwing is a book I've been waiting to get my hands on since it started. I have every single issue of Nightwing, which says a lot because I don't have a lot of comics. I have all the annuals, The Target one shot, everything. I still have sample pages I did 8 years ago of Nightwing #32, so to say that I am extremely excited to be doing this book is a huge understatement."

Amy Wolfram writes TEEN TITANS: YEAR ONE

Newsarama reports: In 2007, the publisher will launch five Year One miniseries, each one designed to streamline, clarify, or emphasize the start of a character(s) who will be playing major roles in the months to come. The five series are:

Green Arrow: Year One by Andy Diggle and Jock
Metamorpho: Year One by Dan Jurgens
Teen Titans: Year One by Amy Wolfram and Karl Kerschl
Black Lightning: Year One by Jen Van Meter and Cully Hamner
Huntress: Year One by Ivory Madison (w) and artist tba

NRAMA: The Teen Titans – which incarnation are we talking about?

DD: That’s the whole thing. We want to go back and show what the earliest team was, and rebuild that origin, too. I don’t think we’ve ever done a Year One with that team before, and by doing this, it will allow us to look at the relationship between Robin and Wonder Girl and Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad and the rest as the team is built, while showing some of the lesser-known Teen Titans characters along the way.

And also, because we’re in the position of creating the Titans East, we thought it would be a good time to go back and establish the roots a little more of the original team.

Karl Kerschl recently provided art on the ROBIN series. And fans of the Teen Titans animated series will recognize Amy Wolfram as one of the series story editors and writers. Amy is a brilliant choice to write the year one series; She's scripted awesome episodes like SISTERS, TERRA, BETRAYAL, CALLING ALL TITANS and THINGS CHANGE. Great creative team for this special project! Big props to DC for securing them!

It's also long overdue for DC to retell the Titans early years. Aside from SECRET ORIGINS ANNUAL #3, the Titans origins haven't been retold since 1978!

Newsarama's Terra Talk

NEW GIRL IN TOWN: GRAY AND PALMIOTTI TALK TERRA

Newsarama: First off, what got you started on this, and why Terra? Was bringing her back something that DC offered up as an option, or was it something you brought to them as an idea?

Justin Gray: We brought in the idea for a new character and after a few months of back and forth we were asked if we could take elements from that character and apply her to bringing a new Terra to the DCU.

Now - I know what you’re thinking and yeah, maybe the DCU didn’t need a new Terra, but in working over the ideas and looking at her original origin some exciting possibilities emerged. The same kind of thing happened when we brought Golden Eagle back in Hawkman.

Jimmy Palmiotti: Right – we’re always pitching new things, but the crew at DC wanted us to take a stab at this project and we had a few ideas on how to handle it and they went for it. Right place, right time, with the right concept.

NRAMA: But just to – try – to clarify…Terra died. Dead. Very dead. Years back. Are we talking about the same Terra here, or someone different? Any hints you can drop about her?

JG: Which Terra? Aww, never mind I won’t torture anyone today. This is a new Terra same as the old Terra only different. Does that clarify things?

NRAMA: Not exactly, but that’s all you’re going to say about it for now?

JG: Right.

read the full interview here!

Personally, I don't understand all the talk of the 'dead' Terra. There's a Terra whose been kicking around the DC Universe since 1991... and has been waiting for an origin since 1995. I like that Terra... so I hope they don't do anything too drastic!

New Date for Tokyo: February 6th

the excellent tvshowsondvd.com reports on Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo: "Let's see, we've posted news that Trouble in Tokyo would be released on October 17, and then Jim Harvey from ToonZone told us it was moved to November 7, and now we're hearing... February 6. So, that'll be the new date, at least until it changes again."

Here's how the studio describes the movie: Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo: America’s coolest heroes head to Japan in their first animated movie, Teen Titans Tokyo, airing in late fall. When a high-tech ninja attacks Titans Tower, Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy spring into action. Robin finds out that the ninja was sent by a mysterious and menacing Japanese criminal known as Brushogun, and the Teen Titans travel to Tokyo to track the villain down.

DC Nation: Titans News

In Dan Didio's DC Nation column, he dropped a few Titans hints. In "organizing his phone list", he had the following messages:

GEOFF JOHNS: Need lowdown on the Titans East traitor.

BILSON & DEMEO: Love the direction they are taking Bart. Superboy Prime/ All Flash works better as a mini-series than part of a monthly.

JUDD WINICK: Make it work. They belong together.

MARV WOLFMAN: Nightwing is all yours for the next year.

DAMION SCOTT: His Raven miniseries with Marv looks great.

Lots to ponder....

Todd Nauck's Animated Titans

Todd was interacting with some fans on this thread in his forum. michealdark asked: "If J. could bring in other characters from the comics like say Lilith or Rose(whom are both needed I think, but that's just me and it would be up to J.'s editors to allow him to do that),do you think you'd be up to the task and do you think you have a good idea for them already? If so...can we see it?"

Ever obliging, Todd responded: "If we brought Lillith or Rose into TTG, I'd love to give them a TTG make-over. No ideas yet. Never thought about it until you brought it up just now. Hmmm." Mere days later, Todd posted his designs for Lilith and Rose [Ravager] Wilson!

Lilith looks awesome! I had the same idea for her design [I should post my designs...] It basically blends classic Lilith [mini skirt and go-go boots] with her Omen persona [the red and black color scheme, design elements and belt]. I'd really love to see her in TEEN TITANS GO! Lilith link.

Rose as Ravager looks fantastic! Again, blending the best of the comic version with the animated Slade. Rose is another one I'd love to see in the animated TT universe. Rose Wilson link.

Finally, Todd did an awesome chibi Superboy. [Superboy link] Y'know, out of ALL the Titans characters that never appeared on the show, the ones I wanted to see were Donna Troy Wonder Girl,Superboy, Lilith and Rose! At least now, thanks to Todd, we know what they woulda looked like!

Awesome, awesome work, Todd!

Legion and The Batman Premiere

Don't miss LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES and THE BATMAN, both premiering Saturday morning! LEGION boasts some of the TEEN TITANS staff, while THE BATMAN features the debut of Robin! Check 'em out!

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES, 11:00-11:30 am: In the year of "Superman Returns" at Warner Bros., Kids' WB! is proud to present a new series developed especially for the "Too Big For Your TV" block by Warner Bros. Animation, inspired by the DC Comics legend. One thousand years from now, a group of teenage super heroes travel back in time to recruit the greatest hero of all, Superman, and enlist him their fight against evil in the 31st Century. While their intentions were good, their time travel skills were not, and Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl, Bouncing Boy and Timber Wolf end up going too far back into the past, accidentally retrieving the young Superman instead. Together, this unlikely Legion of Super Heroes bands together to defend the rights of all free worlds and uphold the laws of the newly formed United Planets. That is, if they don't kill each other first. LEGION OF SUPER HEROES combines humor with high-stakes, grand-scale super heroics to create the ultimate sci-fi, super hero fantasy for kids of all ages. Each episode of this fast-paced, character-driven action comedy will pit Superboy and the Legion against otherworldly threats and adversaries who challenge the team on both super heroic and emotional levels. The series is executive produced by Sander Schwartz, and produced by Linda Steiner and James Tucker for Warner Bros. Animation. Look for some of the Teen Titans staff to be working on Legion of Superheroes!

THE BATMAN, 11:30 am-12:00 Noon: In the upcoming third season, the Dark Knight continues his relentless quest to rid Gotham City of its supervillains, but he's not alone. Robin joins the team, and the fabled Dynamic Duo is also occasionally joined by Batgirl. Harley Quinn, Black Mask, Killer Moth, the Everywhere Man and a brand-new Clayface join the rogues' gallery of villains, led by the Joker, Penguin and Riddler, who ceaselessly torment Batman and Gotham City. THE BATMAN is based upon the DC Comics characters and is executive produced by Sander Schwartz and Alan Burnett for Warner Bros. Animation. Duane Capizzi and Mike Goguen serve as supervising producers, and Linda Steiner and Jeff Matsuda are producers.

With "Teen Titans" wrapping up after its fifth season, Story Editor ROB HOEGEE was tapped to develop DC's newest super-series: THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES. Rob Hoegee on LEGION: "We've got a good mix of ex-Titans and Justice League talent. James Tucker has assembled a really impressive crew. We're also lucky to have AJ Vargas, who was the Associate Producer on Teen Titans with us as well. [...] Yeah, I was lucky enough to have both Amy [Wolfram] and David [Slack] come in and do an episode or two. I'm nearing the last legs of the first season of LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES. All I can say is they turned out great. Even the slightest hint about the storylines of their episodes would be too much of a spoiler!"

Rob took some time out of his busy schedule to talk with titanstower.com about the Teens of Tomorrow. Click here to read the interview!

Damaged in the JSA

Sounds like Damage may be quite... damaged in the new JSA.

From Newsarama's DALE EAGLESHAM: AT HOME WITH THE JSA interview:

NRAMA: Damage isn't a new character himself, but he's new to the team and has a new look that includes a mask. How difficult is it to portray the emotions of a character through a mask?

DE: He's got a full face mask. Obviously there's something going on with his face being covered, and we'll find out more about that in the story. But we can still see his eyes. And I can manipulate the mask. It's a dark mask, so you do see light reflecting off the surfaces, so it does give me some maneuvering room for expressions. I've drawn Batgirl before the same way. If it's a colorful mask, it requires too much sculpting and it gets a little goofy. But a dark mask can be really threatening yet it gives you sort of a range. Of course, you don't want too much of a range for Damage, because he's a really conflicted character. So we really don't want to see too much of what he's really thinking. There's probably a lot of hurt there too, but we don't really want to see that.

NRAMA: So the mask ends up helping you be more subtle with his emotions?

DE: It's going to be there. But it's also a little hidden. Kind of dangerous, kind of conflicted. And for him, I'm waiting to get in there and really work in those emotions and that personality and see how it's going to play out.

Power Boy Meets Supergirl

Power Boy made his debut as a Titan during their missing year. His first appearance was in TEEN TITANS #38. What does the future hold for the new character?

Newsarama reports from Toronto Comic Book Expo: "Joe Benitez said a surprise character shows up in the fill-in issue he's doing for Supergirl -- a character for whom this is a first appearance. Benitez had a copy of the art for the last page of the issue, and it's a full splash page of Power Boy, the character who was first hinted about in Teen Titans last week.

"There's this really intense fight, and then Power Boy shows up at the end," he said, adding that, unfortunately, he won't be drawing the next issue, so he knows absolutely nothing about Power Boy beyond the that one page.

Read their full report here.

How Nightwing Escaped Death

Newsarama has now posted a second article, this time on DC's One Year Later panel.

Q: Why didn’t you kill Nightwing in Infinite Crisis?

Waid: Because Geoff Johns and I took turns holding a big club over Dan once we learned he wanted too.

Perez: And speaking for guys who actually earn residuals off of Nightwing, we like him too.

Q: Why was it even considered?

Waid: Yeah Dan, why?

Wayne: And don’t say again, “Because Bob said it would sell.”

Busiek: Have you ever drunk a lot of Scotch? Dan has.

Waid: Yeah, what has he ever done to you?

Didio: We were looking for the big death in Infinite Crisis – the big moment. We were looking for something that would have equal import and merit and weight in this story. One of the things I’ve been proven wrong about is that I had felt that Dick Grayson was a redundant character – Tim Drake had filled his role as Robin, he would never be Batman, so where could he go?

My big fear was that Nightwing would get older than Batman. The thought was that if we removed Dick form the equation that would allow Bruce Wayne to stand alone as Batman, and to firmly establish Tim Drake as Robin. So now – Marv is showing us why we like him, his place in the DC Universe, and more importantly, his potential in the DC Universe.

Titans News from Baltimore

From Newsarama's report on the DC Universe panel at Baltimore Comiccon:

Q: Where will readers see the resolution of Nightwing’s proposal of marriage to Oracle?
Didio said that there are plans for an early ’07 Nightwing Annual, set after Infinite Crisis and before he left on the cruise with Bruce and Tim that will address what happened. Marc Andreyko will write it.

Q: Is the Terra miniseries still coming?
Palmiotti: Still coming. Terra makes her first appearance in Supergirl #12.

Q: Will there be more with Marv Wolfman on Nightwing?
Didio: He’s on for 12 issues as of now.

Q: Cassandra Cain - evil forever?
Didio: Teen Titans East.

Q: A Wonder Girl/Robin romance?
Waid: Dude, that would just be evil.

Q: Are all three heroes in space from 52 coming back?
Waid: No.

Q: Metal Men and Doom Patrol - miniseries for either?
Didio: Maybe and no.

Q: Why is the new Terra not in Titans East?
Didio: She’s a new character for us, and we want to tie her in and establish her on her own before mixing her in.

Q: Will we see Diana Price as Wonder Woman and Donna Troy pick up mantle in 52?
Waid: Yes – it’s one of the key pieces we’ve yet to nail down, but it is very important. You’re going to see more and more events in 52 tying in closer to what we’ve seen in the OYL titles as things move into the final half of the series.

Murakami on TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO

Cartoon Network announced they're airing "Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo" on Friday, September 15th as well as Saturday, September 16th at 7:30pm Eastern.

Newsarama has a report on TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO: "“David Slack and I discussed the Titans video inbetween seasons 4 and 5,” Murakami recalls, “but it wasn't green-lit until after season 5. David and I wanted to do a story big enough and different enough from the regular series to warrant being a video. I think I might have suggested Tokyo just because the series was so influenced by anime. It seemed like a natural progression to take them to Tokyo.”

Trouble In Tokyo is a feast of inside jokes about Japanese culture. For instance, the main side villains include a Mighty Tetsuwan clone, a cat-girl, a giant mecha that gives a whole new meaning to the term “Iron Chef,” a no-face ghost. If PsychoTech seems familiar, say Ultraman. Then there’s the head of Tokyo’s main crime fighter unit, Inspector Daizo. His uniform is almost a button-to-button realization of Lupin III’s Zenigata (although he’s hardly as bumbling).

Still, this mini-movie manages to keep the more purist-at-heart happy with its non-stop action and reliance on the personalities in play here, not the jokes. A good example of this is to look at how Robin grows throughout the episode.

“Teen Titans has always been a character driven show,” says Murakami. “I wanted the audience to care about the characters as people first and being a super-hero second. It's important to understand what Robin and the Titans are going through, to relate to them.”

"Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo" Airs Friday & Saturday

Cartoon Network announced they're airing "Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo" on Friday, September 15th as well as Saturday, September 16th at 7:30pm Eastern.

Here's how the network describes the movie: Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo: America’s coolest heroes head to Japan in their first animated movie, Teen Titans Tokyo, airing in late fall.

David Slack, who wrote the movie, described it as a high-adventure set in Tokyo; He mentioned how the show was inspired by anime, so it made sense to do an adventure with a Japanese locale. They had fun using some Japanese-anime elements in the film. David also mentioned that the film would feature some romance between two main characters. Fans of the show should be able to easily guess which two characters are featured in that regard. Another highlight of the movie: Beast Boy does Karaoke. How much more incentive do you need?

I don't want to spoil too much about the movie, but I will give a few teasers: A Titans East member has a VERY brief cameo; The romance aspect is very satisfying; and the end credits have a great not-to-be-missed audio track.

Geoff's My Space brings Titans News

Visit Geoff Johns myspace page, and you'll catch some great upcoming comic book tidbits.

Geoff recently posted some upcoming Titans news: "Also, I thought Id give you the run down on whats going on and whats coming up. For anyone that doesn't know - Teen Titans is about the young heroes in the DC Universe banding together in order to help the world and themselves.

During the last year, after Superboys death, the Teen Titans went through over two-dozen new members, some youll meet in our upcoming arc: TITANS AROUND THE WORLD. The team never held on to members very long for various reasons. Will the team be able to now? Does the world really need a group like the Teen Titans? And will some of our more troubled members like Wonder Girl, Ravager and Raven (yes, shes back on the team with the next arc as well as two more new members) embrace this new team or tear it apart?

The book has, yes, shipped late. TEEN TITANS 38 was illustrated by a new artist from Brazil, whose work Im sure will impress you, to allow for Tony to jump ahead so we could avoid shipping late any further. Unfortunately, although 38 was written long ago it was, as you know, delayed. The good news is that it'll be out asap. The better news is that Tony has already illustrated 39 (and its DAMN beautiful! Wait until you meet Miss Martian!) and is half-way through 40. 41 will conclude the TITANS AROUND THE WORLD ARC.

Then comes one of my favorite issues which I finished scripting today TEEN TITANS 42 which spotlights KID DEVIL and reveals some shocking things about him. Ive posted the cover in my pics section [see pic on right]. This issue will be illustrated by Peter Sneijberg you I worked with on both JSA and THE FLASH. Hes absolutely perfect for this book, which guest-stars both BLUE DEVIL and the new ZATARA.

And then, with issue 43, were off to the races with TITANS EAST! Youve seen some of the sketches of them on-line at wizarduniverse.com, youve heard the rumors of what the team is for, but were hoping to surprise the hell out of you with what Tony and I have worked up.

Were committed to getting TEEN TITANS to you as quickly as we can and as best as we can. I hope youre enjoying it as much as Tony and I are."

Geff Johns Toronto News

TORONTO 06: DC BIG GUNS
by Vaneta Rogers

From newsarama.com: The biggest news at the "DC Big Guns" panel on Sunday at the Toronto Comic Book Expo was Geoff Johns' announcement of his All Star Batgirl comic with artist J.G. Jones, which will begin at the end of next year. But here’s some Titans related tidbits:

Johns: "I just finished Teen Titans #42. It's like a Blue Devil/Kid Devil issue that nobody's been asking for, but I did it anyway. And so it reveals how Kid Devil got the way he is and why, and it ties into a lot of stuff we're doing in 52."

Johns was asked, will the Teen Titans roster change? "There will be three new members joining the team in Issue #41. Raven's one of those," Johns said.

Johns said that in 52 Week 21, the new Infinity Inc. will fight the new Teen Titans from the missing year, "but they're terrible. It's like Beast Boy and bunch of D-list teenagers that really can't cut it."

Titans of An Artist: Tony Daniel

A TITAN OF AN ARTIST: TONY DANIEL TALKS TEEN TITANS
by Vaneta Rogers

Newsarama reports: " And with a slew of "missing year" Titans being revealed in the next Titans story arc and the recent announcement of the Titans East roster by DC, Daniel's new characters have been getting a lot of attention. Add to that new characters we've already seen, like Kid Devil, and the tweaks he made to the Doom Patrol characters, and it's looking like this guy's working overtime on character sketches and redesigns - along with the regular issue of course.

We sat down with Daniel to discuss how he got the gig as regular penciler on Teen Titans, why he changed his style and how he's approaching the development of all these new characters. "

Teen Titans in November

TEEN TITANS #41

Written by Geoff Johns; Art by Tony Daniel and Kevin Conrad; Cover by Daniel. The explosive "Titans Around the World" story concludes with the team finding Raven! Will she bring back a Titan who died?

On Sale November 8, 2006 - see the cover here

Let me go on record: I hope that Raven brings back Lilith from the dead. The super-cool psychic go-go dancer needs to live again. Out of all the dead Titans, Lilith's death was the most pointless. Once a bright character with lots of potential, her Q-rating plummeted when she became Omen - in effect, making her a poor man's Raven. Worse yet, the identity of Lilith's mother was never revealed!

DC NATION reveals Titans East, Terra & More

Dan Didio's weekly column revealed tons o' Titans news:

DC Nation: #22
August 16, 2006

Now where were we? Oh yeah, we were talking about what new series and big events we have to look forward to for the remainder of this year, before we can start talking about what super secret projects we have planned for next year. Next year, next time… maybe. Right now, let's talk TEEN TITANS, in particular TEEN TITANS EAST.

Come this November, the Teen Titans you know and love come face to face with their east coast counterparts. But this will be far from a social gathering, as this group of super-powered teens was organized by no other than the Titans' greatest nemesis, Deathstroke. I can guarantee that their first meeting will be a deadly one. Pulled together by shared evil intentions are former heroes Batgirl, Risk, the Joker's Daughter, returning villains Inertia and Match, and all-new threats Choir Boy and Sun Girl. The action begins in TEEN TITANS #42. With a gathering like this, you know you're in for trouble!

And with all those new characters appearing in the TITANS series, the book seemed a bit crowded, so a couple of former Titans decided to spin out into mini-series of their own. Titans Master Marv Wolfman scripts new adventures for one of his most complex characters in a brand new RAVEN mini-series. Joined by talented artist Damion Scott, the series will follow Raven's dangerous exploits away from the team. Not to be forgotten, the infamous TERRA returns in her very own mini-series too. This one brought to you by the ever-busy writing team of Palmiotti and Grey and art by everyone's favorite power girl, Amanda Conner. But wait! Isn't Terra dead? Alive? Dead Again? Alive again? Not to worry. It will all make sense (or at least that's what Jimmy and Justin keep telling me).

Derrick Wyatt's Unused Animated Titans

Teen Titans character designer Derrick Wyatt revealed some unused character designs at his blog: "Here are some Teen Titans designs I did for fun based on Adam Warren's "Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone" comic. I had hoped at one point that we could use them in the show sometime. There was some discussion of it, but ultimately it didn't happen."

check out the designs and more at Derrick's blog.

It's a shame they never appeared! they look verra cool.

Rewriting ‘Infinite Crisis’ #4

GEOFF JOHNS: WRITER'S WORKSHOP
Rewriting, Part I: ‘Infinite Crisis’ #4

Geoff talks about rewriting Infinite Crisis #4; We learn what was changed and why - and which Titans were saved from death!

"The first draft of this scene, which can be viewed by clicking here, went through many debates and changes. It originally included Superboy-Prime showing up and, as he does, tearing through the heroes. But in the first version, not only did he kill a different character (and there were many on the list which I’ll get to in a second–because I know that’s what people want to know) but he didn’t react the right way when he murdered someone.

It was so incredibly wrong to me.

But I didn’t have it figured out yet. So, I told Eddie [Berganza, editor on Infinite Crisis] there was something wrong with these two pages. And I told Phil [Jimenez, artist for the series]. And I thought about it.

Was it a matter of who died? That was a huge question. In the first draft, the Teen Titans’ Argent was the one that faced Prime’s outburst. But it was his heat vision that did it. Eddie loved Argent and had plans for her, so she was taken off of the table. There was discussion, and a draft, where Terra was the one who was killed. But I felt like her story hadn’t been yet told–it would leave too many unanswered questions. Red Star was also proposed, due to power levels but we had plans for him. And then I realized, as strange as it sounds, we needed to use someone obscure. I hated to say it, but this moment was not about who died, but about Superboy-Prime killing."

Catching Up With Geoff Johns

Newsarama reports: "During one of the breaks in his con schedule, Newsarama sat down with the writer to discuss all the titles he's got coming out, who is in the Titans East and Justice Society teams he's developing, and what was up with that little bomb he dropped about the much-discussed status of Batgirl Cassandra Cain."

More members of Titans East are revealed!

1. Batgirl! "We're going to go with what they've been doing, but with some twists."
2. Inertia! "Inertia will be on the team."
3. Risk! "Yes, Risk is on there. You're going to meet him in the next issue and see where he is in his life. He's still missing an arm. And his attitude is like, at one point someone's going to say, "Why don't you get a cybernetic arm?" And he says, "I only need one arm." That's his attitude. He's just kind of gruff and at the end of his rope."
4. "You'll meet Kid Devil's arch enemy. [...] He's on Titans East. Kid Devil is actually kind of excited when he sees that, because he likes to brag that he has an arch enemy."
5. "There's a brand new character who, in a very strange way, is a pre-cursor to a character from the far future."
6. Joker's Daughter! "OK. I'll reveal one more. Just 'cause it's fun. Um... Joker's daughter. [...] Yeah. We're going to really get into her. Tony [Daniel] did an amazing redesign on the Joker's daughter for Titans East."
7. unknown member
8. unknown member

Who are the 7th and 8th members of Titans East? Here's to guessing!

SDCC: Dinner with Geoff Johns

Pictured: Geoff Johns is the one with Pac-Man fever. Clockwise from Geoff [I'm also giving away their Geoffian identities]: Krystal [Krystal Method], Jill [DammitJill], Mark [Tom's brother], Mathias [Midus Unknown], Peter's [PMH] grey shirt and Tom [wickedwrister31]

Sunday was the last day of the con. It was a pretty mellow day for me; I just collected my final art pieces and shopped a bit. I was hoping to catch up a bit with Geoff Johns before the con was over, but I missed his signing at the DC Booth Sunday morning. I had met one of the geoffjohns.com board members, Chris Hansbrough, during the con and just happened to bump into him as the show closed its doors. I helped him carry a heavy box out to his ride back home... and he mentioned that Geoff was meeting a bunch of us fans at Dicks, a local bar and grill type restaurant.

Ah, serendipity.

My original plan was to chill out for awhile back at the hotel, so I figured I would swing by Dicks and see who was there. Lo and behold, Geoff was holding court with the GSA [Geoffian Society of America to you non-geeks]. Although should this be GSLA, given it's West Coast branch status? Whatev--

I'm glad I was able to make it. Everyone swapped con stories and everyone was chatting about Titans and comics. Geoff mentioned that he he a great time at the con. He especially enjoyed spending some time with his mentor, Richard Donner. Geoff was Donner's assistant years ago -- yep, Geoff Johns was once a sidekick himself, of a sort.

Anyways, Geoff was his usual friendly self, and shared some Titans tidbits with us. We voted on an ever-so-slight costume variation for a character, so let's see what happens in that regard. For the record, I was voted out on my choice. I also let Geoff know that Titans Companion II looks like a 'go', so get ready to chat! Geoff seemed especially interested in talking about the "One Year Later" team. He was pleased that fans seem to be embracing the team - and Ravager and Kid Devil.

I was also chatting it up with Krystal and Jill. Krystal is a mondo-Ravager fan, as am I, so we had our Rose-love to share. Jill is more Batgirl-focused, which is equally cool. But Ravager is cooler. I was also educating Krys and Jill on the coolness that is Lilith. Poor Lilith, taken before her time. Krystal and Jill were debating which costumes to wear at next year's con, and considered a Ravager and Batgirl combo. I told them, "This must be done." This year, Krystal graced the con halls as Donna-Wonder Girl, and earned George Perez' approval.

I also got a chance to meet fellow Phil Jimenez enthusiast, Peter [aka PMH]. We both had Phil spottings during the con, and talked about the awesomeness that is the Donna Troy figures. They we traded Phil sketch stories, which was a lot of fun. Great group of people for my last San Diego Con-Dinner!

I showed Geoff my haul of sketches at the con, since I know he appreciates them. Before he had to run, Geoff doodled a few sketches for each of us. And thus, my cool-ass Deathstroke [see above]. Geoff treated us at Dicks, which was unnecessary, but wholy appreciated. Whatta guy!

Anyways, it was a great end to a great con. Shag. A Bruce Timm Batman sketch. Mike McKone art. Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo. The animated Teen Titans team. Eric Wight's Buffy. More awesome sketches. Dinner with Geoff. Sweet stuff all around.

And that concludes my exhaustive San Diego Titans Tower transmission! See you next time!

SDCC: Titans Companion II in Development

At the San Diego Comic-Con, I was able to finally meet Glen Cadigan face-to-face. Glen was the editor and interviewer for the first TITANS COMPANION book from Twomorrows Publishing. It was great to finally put a face to a name. Glen and I talked about plans to do a second volume to TITANS COMPANION - covering YOUNG JUSTICE, Jurgens' TEEN TITANS, TITANS, Geoff's TEEN TITANS and the animated TEEN TITANS. We're still in very early stages, but stay tuned!

SDCC: Mike McKone's Titans II

Mike McKone made a return to San Diego Cimic-Con once again this year. Mike's been living in Spain for more than a year now, so the trip to San Diego is quite a jaunt. I've been enjoying Mike's work on the FANTASTIC FOUR. But man, you guys should have seen all the commissions Mike did for the con. The guy should REALLY be doing one of the X-books. Actually, he SHOULD be back on Titans... but I digress...

Mike's agent and all-around-nice-guy, Art, was helping Mike run the booth and sell his art. I got to talking about eventually having Mike draw EACH of the Titans for me, since he already drew Beast Boy and Starfire. To my surprise, Art and Mike hooked me up with ALL SIX remaining Titans. What a way to end the con!

This is one of the most awesome additions to my collection!

SDCC: Mike McKone's Titans

I was able to catch up a bit with Mike McKone at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The first thing I did was look through some of his NEW commissions. His Titans art is mostly sold and gone at this point, but Mike did some pieces-for-sale before the con. I was eyeing that awesome shot of the trio of Titans, but Mike went and gave it to some guy as a gift... I dunno, some dude named Geoff Johns...

So I went and bought that Starfire piece. I hadda get some McKone Titans!

The other pictures are Mike sketching and a pick of me hangin' with Mike-da-man.

SDCC: Teen Titans Animated Crew

The Crew of the animated Teen Titans series was in San Diego in full force! At the Legion panel, a few of the Titans alum were around; Of course, Story Editor Rob Hoegee was there at the panel proper. Director Ben Jones and character designer Derrick Wyatt were both there as well in the audience, since both artists are now busy working on LEGION. I was able to catch up a bit with both of them over dinner with the fine folks from titansgo.net. It was great to be able to meet those guys [fellow Titans fanatics!] as well! We talked comics and cartoons over some Italian fare.

Friday night I hit the Hyatt bar scene - which became a post-con social extravganza! While mixing and mingling, I caught up a bit with former Teen Titans Story Editors Rob Hoegee and David Slack.

Saturday night was the big premiere of TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO, which was introduced by writer David Slack and producer Glen Murakami. [The movie was cool, by the way -- see full report below]. I was able to spend some time with the crew after the movie. Everyone seemed pleased at the fan response to the movie; David Slack mentioned that it was a surreal experience to watch a movie he had written WITH an audience. A fan [I wish I knew their name] gave a really neat gift to Glen Murakami [I wish I took a picture] - it was a stuffed animal version of Silkie that was hand-made. It was one of the coolest things I'd seen at the show. I THINK this is the very same Silkie.

All three directors of the movie were there - Michael Chang, Ben Jones and Matt Youngberg - as each of them directed a 20-minute-or-so chunk of the movie. Also joining the pary were storyboard artist Irineo Maramba and series Story Editor Amy Wolfram. Amy had a writing panel with Adam Beechen [who wrote various episodes of the series]. Unfortunately, I missed her panel due to a scheduling conflict, but she said it went quite well.

As usual, it was great to hang out with these guys. A great buncha folks as well as talented people. I was able to get a jam sketch from some [but not all] of the creators. Not as good as last year's jam piece, but a nice reminder of a fun con!

SDCC: Titans Go! Art

The Teen Titans Go! team - cover artist Sean Galloway, writer J Torres and artist Todd Nauck - signed throughout the San Diego Comic-Con at the DC booth. Here's some nifty sketches I got from those guys. I hadda ask Todd for a Donna Troy Wonder Girl!
