Newsarama's Terra Talk

Newsarama: First off, what got you started on this, and why Terra? Was bringing her back something that DC offered up as an option, or was it something you brought to them as an idea?

Justin Gray: We brought in the idea for a new character and after a few months of back and forth we were asked if we could take elements from that character and apply her to bringing a new Terra to the DCU.

Now - I know what you’re thinking and yeah, maybe the DCU didn’t need a new Terra, but in working over the ideas and looking at her original origin some exciting possibilities emerged. The same kind of thing happened when we brought Golden Eagle back in Hawkman.

Jimmy Palmiotti: Right – we’re always pitching new things, but the crew at DC wanted us to take a stab at this project and we had a few ideas on how to handle it and they went for it. Right place, right time, with the right concept.

NRAMA: But just to – try – to clarify…Terra died. Dead. Very dead. Years back. Are we talking about the same Terra here, or someone different? Any hints you can drop about her?

JG: Which Terra? Aww, never mind I won’t torture anyone today. This is a new Terra same as the old Terra only different. Does that clarify things?

NRAMA: Not exactly, but that’s all you’re going to say about it for now?

JG: Right.

Personally, I don't understand all the talk of the 'dead' Terra. There's a Terra whose been kicking around the DC Universe since 1991... and has been waiting for an origin since 1995. I like that Terra... so I hope they don't do anything too drastic!

They had previously said they would provide a definitive origin for ALL the Terras. I'm wondering if either all the Terra's *including* the new one are different incarnations of the new person, or perhaps Terra 2 goes to the new Earth-2 theyre hinting at. Of course, I probably won't be that lucky.

What does he mean "which Terra"?
    Before, there was only one..right?
The two Terras have always confused me, and it looks like this will make it more confusing than ever.

I'm still holding out for Red X to make his 1st DCU appearance. If the Teen Titans (animated series) helped raise interest in Terra, it definately has us salivating for Red X.

While I'm intrigued by Red X--and a lot of people are--part of his appeal is that we don't know anything about him. If he was put into the comics, it's inevitable that his identity would eventually be discovered, and would he be interesting then?

    Getting back to Terra...

I went to the DC Database (a division of Marvel Database) and went to the Titans section. It says: Terra I (Tara Markov), Terra II (Tara Markov clone).

Maybe the origin they'll be giving the second Terra is that she was a clone of the original?
