SDCC 2007: "Judas Contract" DTV Update

At the San Diego Comic-Con, I had a chance to chat with Marv Wolfman, who is writing the script for the upcoming "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract" Direct-To-DVD animated movie. Marv said he completed the script, and he wasn't sure what the current status of the project is; It is slated to follow "New Frontier" as the next DC Animated Direct-to-DVD movie.

I talked to Marv about the reasons for excluding Jericho, and he said it didn't serve the story to introduce a new character in the last minutes of the film. It made sense for a serialized comic book, but not for a self-contained movie. Kid Flash is not in the movie either, for those who have wondered. Marv said that he really wasn't a part of the original "Judas Contract" story either.

The Ravager (Grant Wilson) will be alluded to, and Wintergreen will be in it. The best news of all, however, is that Donna Troy (Wonder Girl) is definitely in the movie! So we can see a cool modern animated version of Wonder Girl at last!

I can't wait to see that video! Good to hear at least the script is complete. I'm not concerned about Jericho or Kid Flash being absent, since neither were big players in the arc anyway. Thanks for the update!

I dont know why people say that Jericho is not a major character in the Judas Contract??? He was the wild card that turn the decisive battle favor to the Titans side when Terra and Deathstroke kidnap most of the group. Jericho and Nightwing came to rescue the rest of the Titans in the Hive hide out. How can you exclude him when he was the reason that the Titans escape from the trap?? Rewrote the whole story because he was introduce at the END?? He was there from the begining if anyone has not noted....Jericho was with his mom behind the scene when Terra and Deathstroke were capturing the group from the begenning. I am a faithful TTitans fan. I dont like to have a edit/water down version of the Judas Contract. Anything less than the original is not the original. For god sake Jericho was introduce in the Judas Contract. taken him out is a big plunder in the DVD movie. I am not happy.

I can see what Marv means about introducing Jericho at the end, and having it be another thing to 'take care of' storywise. It would seem shoe-horned. Don't expect a panel-for-panel recreation of the comics-- that wouldn't work!

BUT, that said, Jericho could very well work; retell NTT #2 with Grant/Ravager and also show Joey trying to talk him out of the vendetta... then, later, Jericho would join. So the character wouldnt come out of 'nowhere'...

Still, the Terra/Gar stuff, plus Nightwing/Robin, plus Deathstroke/HIVE makes for a pretty full movie as is!
