SDCC 2007: Titans Print by Mike McKone

Mike was selling 100 limited edition Teen Titans Prints at San Diego. Looking at this, you realize that McKone was one of the best artists on the Titans series - on par with Perez, Jimenez and Cardy. This image makes its debut here. It's also the COVER OF TITANS COMPANION 2! That's right, Mike gave us an original cover for the sequel to TITANS COMPANION. More on Titans Companion 2 soon...

Wow, I would have love to get my hand on that piece. What a nice gentleman Mr. Mike is. He is so far one of my top fav. artist on the TT. Cant wait to see the TT companion II. I wonder what project other than TT#50 is Mike McKone working on.

I'm sorry to say that I disagree about the comment of Mike McKone "being up on par with George Perez".

While I admit that he has an excellent understanding of human anamoty and draws beautiful buidlings and backgrounds, the way he draws the characters' expressions distrubs me.

You see, I am deaf, and thus speaks sign language, which depends 80% on body language and facial expressions. On every of McKone's characters, they either looked bland or blank. No real expression. No real smile, no real frown, no twists.

I'm sorry to say that one little nitpick prevented me from claiming McKone to be a great artist. But he's already so good at many other factions - if he improves on expressing body language, then he'll definitely be on par with George Perez.

    Wow anonymous....Wow.
Thats sure came out of left field where I wasn't expected it at all. I do agree with you on Mike McKone not being up on par with George Perez, since Perez is such an ICON. But geez no facial expressions at all. Come on thats sure cutting it deep man. Especially to an artist for no less, a Brittish gentleman even no less. Dont tell me because he's Brittish right. We dont want to start any international incident here with our greatest alied in Europe now do we!! But seriously I will defend mr. Mike Mckone art as being one of the best on the TT. I say he does have alot of expressions on his drawn characters. And I am deaf, dumb and blind too. Well thats what my girlfriend told me anyway.
    Titans Forever.

If I came off as harsh, I apologize. Like I said before, McKone is a great artist. But really, all his characters have what my deaf friend and I termed the "Three Facial Expressions" - the neutral expression, the frowning expression, and the odd 'meh' expression.

I'm not condemning McKone at all. He is awesome. It's only me; I'm deaf, thus I look for facial expression a lot more. Sorry if I came off harsh in my first comment.
