TITANS Ongoing Series: The Facts

right: preliminary cover to TITANS #1!

Titans

[ongoing monthly series]
writer: Judd Winick
artist: Ian Churchill
Editor: Eddie Berganza

Launch: Early 2008
Who's On the Team: Nightwing, Starfire, Flash, Red Arrow, Cyborg, Raven, Donna and Beast Boy.
Who's NOT: Jericho and Tempest

Winick on the book's tone: There is a way of storytelling that is lighter but not trite. Read back any of the original [NEW TEEN TITANS] stories and all the time the stakes are life and death, but at the same time there's a lightness to them because of the cameraderie. We're trying to emulate that sense of them not waiting around in the Tower for the bad guys to show up, but instead that when an individual on the team is going through something the rest of the team would rally around them.

“I am very excited about this book!” It's has all my Titans (Except Tempest). I was never a big Jericho fan, but now that he is back it seems a shame not to use him. Does anyone know where Tempest is?

I also was very excited about The Titans that Devin Grayson launched, and was greatly disappointed. Winick has a very poor grasp of characterization, and Nightwing in Outsiders seemed like a completely different character. He is also the writer who killed Donna and Lilith (still dead). Oh and his story’s are dark (see quote below).

Winick: “I've actually tried to stay away from the online message boards since this was announced because I am somebody who has been typecast as somebody who writes dark stories, changse characters and kills them off.”

    OK, sounds about right.

Let me rephrase my fist statement, “I want to be very excited about this book”. Yet I have some serious reservations.

    aaak!!
blood sweat toil and tears brought
Jericho back, and as far as i know,
hes sitting on his arse in Titans Tower, twiddling Matches thumbs.

Rick is right. Winick's comments make me think about Dennis Green's famous interview "They are who we thought we are!" There's a reason long time Green Arrow and Nightwing readers don't like him. He does tend to write dark storylines, which means a) DC editors love him and b) we are going to get more of the storylines which most of the current fans are getting sick of.

And that's even before you get to his unhealthy obsession with sex. Anyone else notice an abnormal number of his solioquies are post-coitial? Given the fact he's now going to be writing a title with Starfire, Nightwing, Donna, and Red Arrow, the bedrooms in the Tower are about to become the most used room in the series. And I don't think I'm going to be surprised if Raven decides to try out some out-of-character lesbian tendencies.

::Sigh:: Rick is absolutely right. I wanted to excited about the book. But unfortunately DC gave it to the worst writer imaginable for it. So I'll think I'll wait a little while before investing any money in it.

I'm totally jazzed for this book. I've enjoyed most of Winick's writing, and as a long time Green Arrow fan I love that he respects the family ties between those characters in the 'arrow family' so I can fully see him being able to do the same with the 'Titan's family'.

I like his sense of humor and h's certainly capable of writing fun stories with this team.

I can't wait till this book is launched.

    Curious about Jericho...
Excited to see Dick and Kory on a team in a NON-temporary fashion. Should make for some good storytelling, and a situation that happens often to many of us in our lives.
So glad to have Gar and Vic in a regular book again too. JLA seems more than hefty enough without Roy or Wally needing to be there.
Dissapointed to know nothing of what is going on with Garth (or the rest of the Atlantis family for that matter).
There seems to be a lot of negative attention towards Judd, but I'll take my chances and say that I've for the most part liked his writing. I'm not in favor of dark themes and such but I understand their necessity as a reflection of life. I believe that Judd is excited to work on a project that will allow him to perhaps shed his previous identity as only a person who kills off characters. All in all, just glad to see the Titans Universe expanding.

I am so anxious to see how Winick will work on the team... As Alberto said, I believe Judd is excited to work on a project that will allow him to perhaps shed his previous identity as only a person who kills off characters.
    I hope so...
Curious about Kory and Dick relationship, as well Donna and Roy...

    I can't wait!

Since the whole team has been announced, why hide everyone but Nightwing? I don't remember seeing this anywhere before the members were announced.

And...just something that's been bother me for months and months and isn't really related, since Jericho's whole body was regrown, WHY is he still mute? His vocal chords should be in perfect working condition.

Just curious... where in the interview does it specifically say no Tempest? He just didn't mention him...

Can I have any hope? lol.

    Tempest would be cool
even in a sort of 'marvin and wnedy' role
be so much better if he had his powers back though...

I'd rather have seen Marv Wolfman on this than that new Vigilante series.

See, I'm not sure I like the idea of this series at the moment. Not because I don't want to see the old Titans back together, (I was very disapointed when the previous THE TITANS story was cancelled as well as YOUNG JUSTICE) but I think DC is getting really bad with their team timing.

Characters seemed to be jumping from team to team, like crazy. The team rosters have no stability. In one issue a team is given a new roster, and in less than 5 months later, the roster is completely altered. And sadly, that doesn't leave us with much in term of character developement.

Only a couple of months ago the Titans were composed of Robin, Wonder Girl, Cyborg, Ravager and Kid Devil. Suddenly Raven and Jericho are re-introduced and a few months later, those players up and leave and are replaced with Blue Beetle, Supergirl and Miss Martian. Good additions, yes, but I wanted more Raven and Jericho developement out of them.

Not to mention some characters are going to be pulling double duty again, like Red Arrow and Flash who are both JLA members. Didn't they try this once with the Flash, and if memory serves, he had to quit partically because of the added work in involved.

I miss the times where teams invovled the same characters for several years of issues. It was in those books that we got some good character developement and stories and made these characters beloved.
