Jay Stephens on Lost Annual

The Pulse reports: "After being shelved over four years ago, the Teen Titans' Swingin' Elseworlds story from Bob Haney, Jay Stephens and Mike Allred is going to see the light of day this January as a Teen Titans Lost Annual. Stephens, who was thrilled to work with the legendary Haney, told us what it was like doing the timewarp to the '60s and illustrating a story that featured not just the Teen Titans but JFK and weirdo aliens. Groovy ..."

THE PULSE: For our readers who don't remember hearing about this in 2003, what was this "lost" tale about?

STEPHENS: It's got alien worlds, JFK, and a message of Peace. But mostly, it's all about the '60's... Bob has encapsulated that whole weird, wonderful era with all its contradictory elements of Love and War into one trippy tale.

THE PULSE: What was it like getting to work with Robin, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Speedy and Aqualad, when they truly were young, teen sidekick types?

STEPHENS: I love this original incarnation of the team. I'm a huge Bob Haney fan, and have a lot of affection for the freaky DC "checkerboard" comics of the sixties... Doom Patrol, Brave and the Bold, Metamorpho ... and the Teen Titans are definitely a big part of that mind-blowing line up. It was an absolute honor to do this book.

THE PULSE: Out of that group of heroes, which one is your favorite?? Why?

STEPHENS: I hate to pick favorites! I know Doc Allred would tell you "Kid Flash!" in a heartbeat, but I'm not as certain. I love the original Robin, the first great sidekick of the comics, and a bonafide classic, but Speedy was just so hip... in this particular tale, Wonder Girl really shines, and I think you'll see why. I had a blast drawing her.
