Dan Didio on TITANS to Come

Newsarama reports: "As was mentioned here and there at San Diego Comic-Con, and exclusively to Newsarama on video here in case you missed it, the Titans and the Teen Titans will be rolling together in the later part of this year as the spillover from Decisions sees a whole load of problems land right on their doorstep.

Oh, and did we mention that Jericho and Match (the Superboy/Conner Kent clone) are back as well?

“In Decisions we reveal that there’s a traitor in the Titans midst, and that storyline bleeds into the Titans book, and ultimately into the Teen Titans, and we have a new series spinning out also from this storyline – the new Vigilante series, written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by Rick Leonardi,” DC Universe executive editor Dan DiDio explained." Read the whole article here.

A traitor in TITANS? Again? If they are officially out of new ideas, I'm available to provide some.

Let's go through our list of Titans that have betrayed the team....
Terra
Raven (more than once)
Hawk (became Monarch)
Jericho (possessed by tainted souls of Azarath)
Changeling (under Raven's thrall)
Thunder & Lightning (under Raven's thrall)
Duela Dent (switched between good and evil)
Magenta (switched between good and evil)
Team Titans (all were sleeper agents in Zero Hour)
Cyborg (almost takes over Earth with Technis Imperitive)
Rose Wilson (brainwashed as Ravager)
Superboy (controlled by Lex Luthor)
Bombshell (spy for Deathstroke)
Risk (as Deathstroke's Titans East)

that's 19 out of 70-odd members, plus....

also...
Epsilon betrayed the Titans (but never truly joined)
Jason Todd returned from the dead and attacked Tim Drake
Golden Eagle tried to kill Hawkman to avenge his father
Phantasm is now an evil entity that tried to eat Kid Devil and Zatara
Power Boy turned into a Supergirl stalker
Riddler's Daughter joined Deatshtroke's Titans East as Enigma
Talon was revealed as the evil Robin analogue of Earth Three

I'm sad now...

I'd say they really are out of ideas, if the best they can do now is come up with yet another story about a traitor in the Titans' midst. And if this is part of a crossover, well, I got frightened away from crossovers a long time ago, not just because of the monetary costs, but also because of how it forces contrived circumstances on just about every hero involved. I really don't see much point in reading the Decisions crossover.

When did that Phantasm thing occur with Kid Devil and Zatara? By that, I mean what book and issue number? I just don't remember that, and you made me curious.

Teen Titans (third series) #39 [2006]: Kid Devil mentions he was lost in New Azarath for two weeks during the Titans "missing year". He was rescued with the help of Zatara, although the two teens were almost eaten by the Phantasm. This event is only related in dialogue. The new Phantasm remains to be seen!

OK, I subscribed to this series because it was Titans and DC has not sent a single issue so I picked up number 2 and 3 (my wife got me #1 when it came out) and I have to say they are doing me a favor not sending me the issues. This book sucks! The art is awful and the writing is worse! Does this guy have any idea of what characterization is?

Anyway from the solicitations it doesn’t sound like it’s going to get better!

With such great characters why can’t they get a decent artist and a real writer!

    I’m sad too!

Don't forget Starfire and her brother R'yandr lured the Titans into an unjust war during Devin Grayson's run.

And Dick (post-Robin, pre-Nightwing) being brainwashed by Brother Blood.

And now Rose AGAIN with the Terror Titans.

It's time to give up on the Titans, it's time to give up on DC, it's time to give up on Superhero Comics. Not "boycott"; boycott implies you think by not buying the company's project that this will change anything. Which it won't. They will keep peddling the same garbage. So don't "boycott". Walk away, for good.

It's easy to blame Didio for all this. But the sad truth is, Didio's greatest crime is pulling the same kind of tricks as those before him, only doing it more often and more devastatingly. When he finally leaves, he'll be repleaced with someone even worse.

    Time to walk away.
