Brightest Day: Titans

DC Universe: The Source blog has posted some information on TITANS:

AS: One of the titles that a lot of people have been asking about of late is TITANS. I know that we have a new creative team hitting soon. What can you tell us about that?

DD: TITANS is another series that will fall directly under BRIGHTEST DAY, with Eric Wallace and Fabrizio Fiorentino coming on board, starting with the TITANS: VILLAINS FOR HIRE SPECIAL and then the regular series. We loved the work the two of them did on INK, so we’re excited to see them build a new team of Titans, under the leadership of none other than Deathstroke, the Terminator.

Who the members are and how they affect the original Titans is a major part of the DCU’s story for 2010.

AS: Come on, Dan. You woke me up at 6 a.m. for this. Can you drop a few clues as to the roster?

DD: Don’t see why not. Seeing as how the creative team is coming off a great mini-series like INK, it’s not a surprise that the Tattooed Man will be a member of Deathstroke’s Titans team.

AS: One more?

DD: Well, it wouldn’t be much of a Deathstroke team if there wasn’t a femme fatale in the mix, and we’ve definitely got one – with ties to the original Titans, to boot – in Cheshire. We’ll save the full roster for a later date.

AS: Fair enough. Readers, I’m starving, so I’m going to grab a quick lunch, but come back to The Source in about an hour for another bit of BRIGHTEST DAY news.

Huh. Sounds like a Villain-for-hire team. I had hoped that the recent BLACKEST NIGHT arc was moving Deathstroke toward some "road to redemption." I much prefer the "code of ethics" anti-hero Slade, to the current uber-villain Slade. I dunno. I'm fairly underwhelmed by this....

Also, a little weird this is going under the BRIGHTEST DAY banner..... turning the Titans team into villains for hire?

And they are calling it Titans because? Titan Villains, maybe, but not Titans. I guess they will hunt down the surviving Titans.

sounds like they had a titans related idea. But did not want to create another title. So they stole an existing one... I'm still going to wait for it to develop a little bit more before I judge. But I agree with you. An anti-hero team would have been a much better idea. And make much more sense.

Can someone explain to me WHY they are going to call it the Titans, when its a team full of villains? At what point did the Titans become a constantly changeable title between villains and heroes? I mean, before when people heard the name "Titans" they associated with the sidekicks of the Justice League.

Now we have the Evil Titans East, Terror Titans and Titan: Villains for Hire. Its idiotic. We already have the Secret Six. Do we really need an evil Titans squad?

Maybe it falls under the Titans banner because each member will have a strong connection with an actual Teen Titan? I don't think something like this should be under Brightest Day, but maybe there's a method to the madness?

I don't care for this idea too much. Even if they were anti-heroes, we kinda already have Secret Six to fill that gap. Unappealing.

Red Robin is right. It's the Secret Six ala Titans. The only good things are the possible return of Jericho/Joey and the farewell of Ravager (who is over-exposed lately).

"Can someone explain to me WHY they are going to call it the Titans, when its a team full of villains? " Maybe because so many Titans have gone bad, they sorta are a team full of villains? lol. I kid. Seriously, it's like DC has only one default setting now: "Dark and dreary."

The sad thing is, Nightwing's statement about so many titans going evil, isn't far off base. Seems almost every member of the team has gone rogue at some point or another. Terra, Jericho, Ravager, Superboy, Raven, Cyborg, Donna Troy, Beast Boy, Bombshell, Batgirl, Risk, Power Boy, Deathstroke...

But regardless how DC lacks any originality in plots and their constant desire to re-use the old "Betrayal" plot point, this is rather idiotic. I'd rather not have ANOTHER evil Titans book. I hated the Terror Titans plots, and the Titans East plot was only bearable because because it was the first time Slade tried to besmirch the Titans name (the ending however to that story was crap, as was the art).
